| I missed the 7th! And I missed the 8th -- well, last year. Because then that would have made the date: 07/08/09!
Actually, I don't know on which date I'd choose to write (in the near vicinity, time-wise) since I can't think of any pretty number combos right now. Perhaps 06/08/10 (Pythagorean's triple; consecutive evens)? Too bad that's passed as well. Suffice it to say, today's date is really awkward (to me).
Hi, Xanga, it's been 2 years, 1 month, and 2 days since I've really made use of you.
Since then, I've graduated from college. Undergraduate-ly. Ending with a decent GPA (I hope) and, more importantly, a much more joyful perspective on life. for sure. =)
Wow.
I made this Xanga when I was a freshman -- in high school.
Time flies! as they always say. (And so do mantous! -- in my world [that was one of my old website layouts])
Oh, and I've moved in the "hey, let me tell you about my life" online world -> http://ilmarin.ithildin.com.
I've always liked these verses:
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." Col 2:6-7.
"Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." Col 4:5-6. | | |
| Goodness, I remember the days when Xanga used to be a simple, plain old weblog kind of thing; I had fun playing with the few settings/layout options. Then all the fancy-shmancy stuff came along as everyone tried to imitate one another uniquely... And then Stacy returned a while later and BAM! she cannot find anything anymore.
Okay, so obviously that's a lie since I've still managed to find the "write a new entry" option; but I must confess, it took me an embarrassingly long time to realise that instead of looking for the "New Weblog Entry" link (or whatever it used to be), I should have seen those bright colourful icons literally punching me in the eyes stating the same thing -- in a prettier fashion.
Wow, what a pointless entry this was.
Should I state the real reason for writing this entry?
Sure, why not: I saw that my last two entries fell on the 7th of a month, and since it happens to be the seventh today -- and what's even cooler is that the condensed date is 3 consecutive single digit numbers: 06/07/08 -- I decided that I simply could not miss this opportunity.
I really like numbers. =)

| After happening upon my xanga one very boring day, I decided that it wouldn't be nice if my latest post (which was one month -- no, exactly five months ago) was rather temperamental.
And so, here's to an update--
I'm still alive (whoo! that's always nice to know, no?), I love my family & friends, and, well ... I have no idea what else to say. It's a pity inspiration never visits me these days. (Hey look! Triple 07's! If I'd realised earlier, I might have done, er, sextuple? 07's.) The end.
(How pathetic.)

| It really tells you something when the class median for your chem midterm was 53/105 for the MC section. (Don't even mention the hand-graded part of the exam, consisting of 45 points; that was even more impossible...)
Quote from the professor about the exam (beforehand): "Most of these MC problems are predictable Core problems for which I expect high success, and which will take very little time for the well prepared student (1-3 minutes each) [...]" And later (the day before the exam): "[...] Probably only 25 points of 150 could be judged as
hard, and most of those are on the hand-graded sections. Only those
that know the Core material very well will have time for some of the
parts on the hand-graded problems."
High success, my foot. Way to quash one's already-quite-defeated spirits.
[edit] Annnnd the final stats for the midterm (out of 100): Average: 48.76, Median: 48, SD: 14. *looks at own score* ... Ouch, that really, really hurts.[/edit]
My Honors EA class now has 5 girls out of 44 enrolled. My TAs from that class also find it amusing when I draw turtles on my homework. So far there's been one w/ its tongue sticking out in a X6 face, another on the edge of a cliff, and yet another hibernating. Unfortunately, I'm quickly running out of ideas. And I have another problem set due this Friday.
In other news, it's been dreadfully cold w/ wind chills reaching -26 F for the past weekend. (Actually, it's quite chilly in our room as well -- my clock/thermometer currently reads 66.5 F; the record low for our room, btw, was 57.7 F. oh dear, now that was really cold to sleep through).
And amidst all that bone-chilling, face-freezing weather, my dear daddy came to visit me on Saturday; (my mum would have too, had not a cold prevented her). Have I ever told you how much I love my parents?
I kind of want to make a Calvin&Hobbes snowman. I just need to find some time...

| Wahh, one week of college = done! ... X(
You know, when one doesn't think about the academic side of college, life doesn't seem so hopeless and depressing... slightly =P.
During these past two weeks, I've come to the conclusion that meeting friends (rather than just 'acquaintances') comes more easily in small groups than in large groups -- at least for me. I also tend to connect better with the upperclassmen (mainly through the intervarsity groups). At least the conversations and such don't seem as superficial when one talks with them; as opposed to the whole "Hi, i'm _____. i'm from _____. i'm majoring in _____. and you?" or "I've definitely met you before, but I don't remember your name" introductions that still occur within my classes.
Speaking of which... [1] After four days of Engr Analysis (H), I have only spotted 5 girls among the class of 59 kids. I basically feel like a minority here - genderwise. [2] I have come to the conclusion that Chemistry is my weakest science. and that a class of 230 people is somewhat intimidating. [3] I have also concluded that trying to get from Chem to Calc in the 10-minutes-between-class is not easy/enough. But my calc teacher comes from New Zealand and has a cool accent. [4] I shouldn't have chosen Engr Design & Comm. as my elective. The class has only 8 people - two of which are girls, and the class itself is spent on thinking up designs, testing them, seeing them fail, and trying again. --in all, I spend about 20 hrs per week in classes (including labs, discussions, etc.), 2.5 hrs/wk for walking (to/from classes), and not enough for sleeping ... =X.
I like how NU seems rather religious. My residential college seems to be filled with people in a million different Christian groups; and there always seems to be multiple activities for different fellowships going on at the same time. It's a bit annoying because of the overlaps, but i guess it's awesome to know that there are just that many out there.
Nonetheless, there still are people who are a bit "eh"-ed about religion. For instance, when I mentioned something about church to a random (asian) person in my class, that said person kiddingly-scoffed, "Oh, you're another one of those asians." [-- to which I replied nonchalantly, "yup, sure am."] But other than that, it's pretty cool.
--As is my laptop, though I keep forgetting about the little light that illuminates the keyboard and is very useful right now. The fingerprint reader is also very nice, heh =D.
Did I mention that Northwestern is really quite pretty? and life goes on.
